About Muungano wa Wanavijiji Alliance: Muungano wa Wanavijiji Is the Kenyan federation of slum dwellers. Shack Dwellers International Kenya (SDI Kenya) is an NGO providing professional and technical support to the federation. Job Overview: The grant officer will help in maintaining and running the SDI-Kenya sub-granting portfolio. Reporting to the Finance manager, this position will work closely with the program’s team and Muungano Wa Wanavijiji (the National Federation of Slum Dwellers in Kenya) to ensure timely and accurate grant reporting, maintenance of grant records and providing leadership on sub-granting, identification of risks and implementation of the mitigation measures. The grant officer will be tasked with the responsibility of tracking grant budgetary spending, overseeing the disbursement of the grant funding to the beneficiaries. The grant officer will be based in our office in Nairobi with minimal field visit travel.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Managing and supporting grant requirements and implementation process.

• Identify and develop strategies to optimize the grant administration process.

• Ensure timely disbursement of fund to the beneficiaries.

•Coordinate and work closely with other partner in the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) programme in effective administration of the grant.

• Oversee the grants are implemented according to the donor and SDIKenya requirements.

• Monitor/track the financial status of the project through the budget control.

• Keep the project officer staff informed of the upcoming deadlines and deliverables.

• Follow-up with the sub-guarantees to ensure compliance in terms of financial procedures and compliance.

• Coordinate quality control checks and review all grant materials through monitoring of paper work and other relates documents connected with sub-granted projects.

• Help in creating timely and accurate periodical grant financial progress report for consolidation.

• Identify financial risks facing the grant and share with the finance manager.

• Support with the implementation of mitigation measures for the identified risk.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree from a credited university, preferably in finance and accounting or project management, or a related field. A Master’s degree/CPA is an added advantage.

2. Minimum 4 years’ work experience working in a nonprofit organization under grants management.

3. Superior working knowledge in computer office applications and online collaboration tools such as; google products, MS excel, editing, Internet, etc.

4. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills in English.

5. Excellent planning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

6. Excellent organization skills.

7. Ability to work collaboratively with a team and residents in the informal settlement.

8. Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with attention to details.

9. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with diverse internal and external networks.

10.Experience with basic financial management skills including developing and monitoring budgets and financial reports

Duration

The position is on a contract basis for one-year renewable subject to availability of financial resources and the staff performance.
