Organization Description

Muungano wa Wanavijiji Akiba Mashinani Trust (AMT) is a trust corporation registered in Kenya and established to support socio-economic empowerment initiatives of Muungano, a federation of autonomous but linked savings groups based in informal settlements. AMT is mandated to raise and structure capital to achieve community and individual projects and plans. The primary clientele of AMT, therefore, consists of the most marginalized and vulnerable segments of society. AMT’s work includes the promotion of ‘just and inclusive cities’ where urban low-income communities have adequate housing and services and can live with dignity. We negotiate, design, and deliver real improvements to people's lives; in partnership with the government, academia, private sector and civil society. We know that our unity is our strength. AMT now seeks to recruit a program officer to support the implementation of an innovative education program for the urban poor in Nairobi.

The Position

The Program Officer will work with other members of AMT’s program team to support a portfolio of projects aimed at building alliances and advocating for change on issues identified through communityled processes. The primary tasks of this position range from project cycle management to advocacy & alliance building, communication, team leadership, and systems administration. This position further requires its holder to actively contribute to the overall growth and strategic development of the organization.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education, Project Management and Social Sciences or any other related social science degree 2. At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar development organization, in management, program coordination, program monitoring and evaluation. 3. Excellent computer skills, including MSOffice, Internet, and social media. 4. English language proficiency; excellent written and oral communication, presentation and facilitation skills. 5. Experience working with informal settlement communities, schools and government. 6. Experience in managing partner relationships; demonstrated strong management, coordination, and planning skills with a proven ability to function effectively with multiple partner.
